Academy
The U9's took to the centre of excellence in Ballyhaunis aka "The
Dome" on Sunday morning and all we can say is WOW. What an amazing
experience and venue it is. The children truly excelled and thoroughly enjoyed
this amazing opportunity. Thanks so much to all the parents for travelling, 25
children enjoyed the experience. We played 5 games in total against St.
Ronan's, Ballintubber and a final game of St. Michael's X v St. Michael's Y.
Well done to everyone
Well done to our U-11 St.Michaels/St. Ronan’s boys who participated in a very competitive tournament in Croghan
on Sunday last.
The boys had a fantastic experience.
Thank you to all the parents and families who turned up to support.
Thanks to the referees who deserve great credit.
Special thanks to all at Shannon Gaels for the excellent organisation of
the inaugural Sean Duigan memorial tournament.
On Friday evening 30th September at 6:15pm our U5, U7, U9 and U11
Academy, have their final training session followed by some goodie bags and
some end of year presentations, hoping to see everyone there!
Huge thanks to Agnes and Francis Dowd for sponsoring the goodie bags.
Marathon Man
Congratulations to Academy coach,
James Meehan, who ran in the Berlin marathon on Sunday (when the world record
was broken!) The question now is: which coach will follow in James' footsteps?!
JUNIOR A CHAMPIONSHIP
Best of luck to our adult men's team who play Padraig Pearses in the
quarter-final of the Junior A Championship on Sunday 2nd October. Throw-in is
at 2.15pm in Ballyleague. Hopefully our loyal supporters will turn out in big
numbers for this crucial game.
JUNIOR B
CHAMPIONSHIP
Our Junior B team had their second championship
outing in Knockcroghery on Saturday last, against St Dominic's. The visitors
got off to a bright start and led by 1-3 to 1pt after ten minutes. The home
side settled into the game and had reduced their deficit to a single point
approaching half-time. St Michael's ended the half strongly, however, with a
goal and two points to lead by 2-7 to 1-4 at the break. Aided by the breeze on
the resumption, St Dominic's narrowed the gap to 4pts with 2 early frees, but a
third goal from the visitors after ten minutes kept the home side at arm's
length. A further series of pointed frees, with just one in reply, saw the
margin reduced to three with ten minutes remaining. The advantage was then
wiped out by a goal for the home side. Points were exchanged and the sides
remained deadlocked until a third Dominic's goal secured the spoils as normal
time elapsed. Full-time: St Dominic's 3-13 St Michael's 3-10. This was
another promising performance from a developing team. We wish them better luck
in their third round game on Saturday 1st October at 2pm in Ardcarne Park..
