G4M&O NATIONAL BLITZ

St Michael's Gaelic for Mothers & Others team made the trip to Malahide on Saturday for the National G4M&O Blitz. With 132 teams and over 2,500 players from all corners of the country participating, this was a real celebration of ladies Gaelic Football played in a carnival atmosphere. Our 20-strong panel, under the guidance of Clare Noone, played five games against teams from Antrim, Dublin (2), Galway and Wexford, performing excellently in all. Spirits were not dampened in any way by the rain during the day (although there are unconfirmed rumours that they were lowered in copious quantities later!) Huge thanks to the organizers and to St Sylvestor's and Naomh Mearnóg GAA Clubs who hosted the event. Congratulations to all involved in establishing this new and vibrant branch of activity in our club.

RESPECT FOR REFEREES

The cancellation of all games last weekend reminds every one of the necessity for referees if we want to have matches. It also gives us time to reflect on how we treat these important volunteers. It should go without saying that physical interference with officials is unacceptable. Verbal abuse is similarly unacceptable. We are fortunate to have people willing to referee within our own club and within the county, and we are very appreciative of their time and effort. They all deserve our respect and support.

UNDERAGE

St Michales/St Ronans Under 17 Boys took on Kilglass Gaels/St Barry's in the latest round of the minor championship on Wednesday last. An early goal for the "KilBars" meant that our lads were playing catch-up throughout the first half, but a goal just before the break left us ahead by 1-8 to 1-6 at the interval. It was a case of deja-vu on the resumption as the KilBars grabbed the lead with another early goal. However, the North Roscommon boys showed admirable composure and responded quickly with an equalizing point, followed by a goal of their own, to seize the initiative. The visitors tried hard to reduce the deficit but our boys managed to keep them at bay, gradually extending their advantage to 7pts by the end. Full-time: St Michael's-St Ronan's 2-17  Kilglass Gaels/St Barry's 2-10. Next up for the u17s is a home game in Ardcarne Park on Wednesday 7th Sept (at 7pm) against Castlerea.

St Michaels/St Ronans Under 13 Boys resume their championship campaign on Thursday 8th at 7pm in Ardcarne Park when they host St Croan's.

St Michael's under 20s play their championship semi-final against Kilbride on Friday 9th at 8pm in Strokestown.

Best of luck to all our teams this week.
