UNVEILING OF MEMORIAL SEAT AT ARDCARNE PARK
On an occasion tinged with sadness for departed friends, fondness for their memory, and pride in their achievements and dedication to our club, a large crowd gathered at Ardcarne Park on Saturday evening for the ceremonial unveiling of a seat dedicated to the memory of a true club stalwart, Dermot Cox, and all Deceased Members of St Michael's.
Club Chairperson Eddie Heslin recalled Dermot's long and distinguished involvement in all aspects of St Michael's - playing, coaching, managing, dancing, fundraising, chairing, and most significantly developing the club's facilities for future generations. He also remembered our most recent tragic loss of Aileen Daly.
County Chairman Brian Carroll paid tribute to Dermot's service to Roscommon GAA at County Board level, on the CCC and the Parks & Development Committee, while Pat Compton outlined Dermot's legacy and the importance of new volunteers continuing his great work.
Speaking on behalf of the Cox family, Dermot's son, Daragh, thanked everyone involved in the proceedings noting how humbled his father would feel by the occasion.
St Michael's GAA Club thank all who helped to bring the event to fruition, from first conceiving the idea to the final unveiling on Saturday evening. A special word of thanks to Ann and the extended Cox families, Fr Brendan McDonagh who blessed the seat, Eamonn Carty and John O'Gara who assisted with the installation, our Scór na nÓg Musicians who entertained the crowd, everyone who provided refreshments and catering, the parking stewards, and to all our club members, friends and followers, young and old, from near and far, who joined us for this special occasion.
From the booklet on the day:
Unveiling & Blessing of Memorial Seat at Ardcarne Park to remember
Dermot Cox and all deceased members of St Michael's GAA Club on 17th June 2023.
Dermot died 20th June 2020 and at that time was Joint Club President and Trustee of St. Michael's GAA Club.
Dermot was dedicated in all aspects of our club throughout his lifetime, as a player at all levels, with Scor teams, as a football manager and County Board Club Delegate.
Dermot was a member of the Roscommon County Board's Parks and Physical Development Committee and the Competitions Control Committee.
Dermot's lifetime commitment of tireless trojan work was carried out with humour, enthusiasm and energy. While we miss the absence of his encouraging distinctive voice, big smile and hearty infectious laugh, we remember with fondness and will not forget all his good deeds many of which are to be seen around the grounds.
Dermot's memory will always be proudly cherished by St. Michaels GAA Club.
