St Michaels GAA Notes
10th October 2021
Junior
Men
Our Junior men's team took on a fancied
Padraig Pearses side in the championship quarter final in Oran on Sunday. In a
tight, tense tussle, with no quarter asked nor given, our lads had the better
of the first half but only had a 2 point advantage at the interval, 6pts to 4.
Pearses began to exert more control in the third quarter and the sides were
level at 9pts apiece at the second water break. With the game up for grabs, it
was Pearses who got the crucial scores to clinch a 12-9 victory. Commiserations
to our boys who have invested a lot of time, energy and commitment to the cause
again this year. It's not over yet as next up is a league semi-final when
promotion is up for grabs.
Best of luck to our Junior B team who meet St
Faithleach's in Ballyleague on Saturday next at 5pm.

Commiserations to the St Michaels/St Ronans u17
boys on losing out narrowly to St Dominic's in the championship semi-final on
Sunday in Knockcroghery. With an unfamiliar line-up due to injuries and
illness, the team was slow to settle and were punished early by two goals for
the home side who went on to lead 2-4 to 1pt at the water break. The visitors
steadied the ship in the second quarter, grew into the game, and trailed by 2-6
to 4pts at half-time. The intensity levels cranked up a notch after the interval
as we took the game to the home side. 1-2 without reply meant that only a goal
separated the teams entering the final quarter. Amid feverish excitement the
gap closed to 2pts but we were denied the goal that would have crowned the
comeback. In stoppage time, St Dominic's lifted the siege and tagged on a
couple of points to clinch their place in the final. Full-time: St Michael's -
St Ronan's 1-8 St Dominic's 2-9.
Great credit is due to the entire panel of players
and management who have worked so hard this year. The attitude and character of
the group was second to none and the skill and teamwork was a pleasure to see.
U 13 Boys
Hard luck to the St Michaels/St Ronans
under 13s who lost out again to Kilglass Gaels/St Barry's in the Keenan
Cup quarter final on Sunday evening.
