Dermot
Cox
One year ago, St. Michael’s GAA lost one of its
greatest ever servants. It is impossible to gauge the impact of a man who
played, managed, sang, danced, chaired, fundraised and loved the club with all
his massive heart.
The Cox family is synonymous with local GAA
from Dermot’s brothers to his children and grandchildren who carry on the torch
with the values he instilled in them.
The wonderful facilities at Ardcarne Park are a
testimony to the tangible legacy that Dermot leaves behind but for all of us
lucky enough to have known him, it is his broad smile and constant
encouragement that will forever live in our hearts.
St Michael's under 14 boys of 2020 travelled to Enfield on Sunday to play their outstanding Division Two Championship Final against a very strong Eire Og / Michael Glaveys combination.
Three first half goals gave the west Roscommon side a decisive lead at the break. To their credit, our lads never threw in the towel, defending manfully and striving relentlessly for the goals that would turn the contest their way.
But it wasn't to be our day and we finished up on the wrong side of a 3-11 to 8pts scoreline.
Congratulations to Eire Og/Michael Glaveys and commiserations to our players and management this time. Our boys have had a super campaign and a bright future awaits.
U14 Panel: Daniel Regan, Tommy Lennon, Daniel Bakare, Neil Fahy, Tomas Gilboy, Shane O'Dowd, Iollan Morahan, Barry Monahan, Ruadhan Henry, Cormac Lee, Jeffrey Oates, Brion O'Dowd, Alex Oates, Cormac Regan, Kyle Guckian, Brion Dowd, Eoin O'Connor, Ronan Guckian, Luke Kearns, Odi Beirne, Aryan Hanly, Edward Clancy, Ronan Guckian, Peter Morahan, Mark Tansey, Shane Fallon, Aaron McDonagh, David Costello, Tom Robertson.
The players, management team and supporters marked the first anniversary of the sad passing of club stalwart, Dermot Cox, with a poignant minute's silence at Ardcarne Park on Sunday afternoon before setting off to play their final.
