Club Notes September 6th
2020
Junior Men
Hard luck
to our Junior Men who play St. Brigids in Ardcarne Park on Saturday last, after
a great game of football the final score was St. Michaels 1-10 St Brigids 2-09.
Under 12 Boys
Our u12
boys team travelled to Orchard Park, Elphin on Saturday last to take on
Kilbride in the Division 2 final hoping to repeat their triumph in the same
competition in 2019. In damp and breezy conditions, our lads started brightly
and dominated possession and territory during the first quarter. At the water
break St Michael's deservedly lead by 5 points to 2. A more determined Kilbride
side appeared on the resumption. Their defence worked hard to stifle our attack
and by half time the sides were level at 5 points apiece. Aided by the breeze,
Kilbride seized the initiative with a quick burst of points after the interval.
Our boys continued to give their all but scores were hard to get. At full time
Kilbride were worthy winners on a scoreline of 14 points to 8.
Regardless of this result, the panel and
management have had an excellent season and a bright future. Thanks to the team
mentors, Brian Lee, Michael Casey, Gary McDonagh and Thomas Morahan. Panel: Ryan
Moran, Peter Walsh, Alex Moore, Peter Morahan, Tom Robertson, Aaron McDonagh,
Alex Oates, Cormac Lee, Darragh Lee, Bríon O'Dowd, Jack Regan, Brion Dowd, Sean
Henry, Conor Cryan, Josh Casey, Tyler Meehan, Oliver Neary, Conor Regan
Under 14 Boys
Good luck
to our u14 boys who look to continue their winning championship run in Division
2 on Monday 7th in Boyle.
Under 16 Boys
Our under 16 boys, sponsored
by Ardcarne Garden Centre, welcomed St Ciaran's to Cootehall last Monday for
the final game in the group phase of their championship. The sides went score
for score in the opening stages and were tied at 1-3 each shortly after the
first water break. A couple of goals and a point in quick succession then saw
the visitors move 7 points clear. However the home team showed great character
to reduce the gap to a minimum at the interval with a series of fine points.
Half time: St Michael's 1-9 St Ciaran's 3-4.
An excellent team goal following a move which spanned the
length and width of the pitch pushed our lads in front when play resumed.
Another home goal before the water break looked decisive. However the visitors
never gave up and scored the last five points to snatch a draw, 3-13 each. This
was another encouraging performance at home by a very young and skillful squad.
Panel: Daniel Regan, Niall McGlynn, Daniel Bakare, Iollan
Morahan, Kyle Keaveny, Colin Burke, Shane O'Dowd, Cathal Guckian, Barry
Monahan, Cormac Regan, Ruadhan Henry, Jeffrey Oates, Eoin O'Connor, Sean Moran,
Bryan O'Connor, Luke Kearns, Ronan Guckian, Edward Clancy, Tommy Lennon.

*New Covid-19 Restrictions:*
While the new Government restrictions on outdoor sports (banning spectators from games and limiting training to pods of 15 including coaches) are very disappointing from a sporting and social point of view, they serve as a warning that Covid-19 remains a threat to society and that we must continue to maintain all best practice protocols to ensure life is as normal as possible.
One positive is that our players are still allowed to play. To ensure that our games may continue, we ask all club members and supporters to respect the new restrictions banning spectators until Sept 13th. We note that, for underage games, one parent/guardian per player is allowed to attend in a child welfare capacity.
Thanks to all for your support and co-operation.
