Pride of place this week goes to the St Michael's Intermediate Team, who bridged a thirteen year gap, by reaching the Roscommon Intermediate Championship Final for 2012 against St Aidan's on Sunday, the 21st of October 2012 at Strokestown, with a 3.30pm thrown in time. The Team defeated St Dominic's by one point in the Replay of the Semi Final of the Roscommon Intermediate Football Championship at the New GAA Grounds, Strokestown on Saturday last, the 06th of October 2012. The Club would like to thank all supporters for getting behind the team and now, the Club ask all people in the Club catchment area to put up/out the Club colours for the County Final.
While last Saturday game ended in a one point victory for St Michael's at a dry Strokestown. St Michael's started the game well, with a lot of possession, but scores were hard to come by, missing two scoreable frees and a goal chance in the opening ten minutes. St Dominic's opened the scoring with a point from play after six minutes. St Michael's first score came from Keith Hogg, after sixteen minutes. Further points followed from Derek Mc Guinness and Kevin Mc Dermott, to leave the scoreline reading St Michael's 0-03 St Dominic's 0-01 after twenty five minutes played. Two more points from Keith Hogg and Paul Simon, gave St Michael's a four point lead. St Dominic's reduced the lead by one point as half time approached. Half Time Score; St Michael's 0-05 St Dominic's 0-02. St Dominic's started the second half strong by dominating around the midfield area. After ten minutes of the second half the teams were level. After twenty five minutes of the second half, St Dominic's had a two point lead but Kevin Mc Dermott scored a point from play reducing the lead down to a point, as full time approached. It was during injury time that a Paul Simon point brought the sides level, St Michael's 0-07 St Dominic's 0-07 but through determination and perserverance from St Michael's the winning point came from Daniel Mc Gonigle. The referree blew the final whistle and a thirteen year gap was bridged. Final Score; St Michael's 0-08 St Dominic's 0-07.
The St Michael's U11 Team play St Croan's in the Shane Beirne Shield Final on Thursday next, the 11th of October 2012 at Tulsk at 6.00pm. Please support the future stars of the Club.
The Junior Team play Tulsk in the Quater Finals of the Div 4 League on Saturday next, the 13th of October 2012 in Tulsk at 5.30pm.
The First Round of the U21 Div 3 Championship was cancelled last weekend due to the Intermediate Team playing against St Dominic's. It is now fixed for Sunday, the 28th of October 2012 against Ballinameen in Ardcarne Park at 12.00pm.
The Lotto draw is in Clancy's Bar, Cleen, Knockvicar on Sunday next, the 14th of October 2012, for a jackpot of €5,600.00.
On Friday last, the 5th of October 2012, St Michael's GAA Club launched their Annual Monster Fuel Draw which took place at Ardcarne Park GAA Grounds, Cootehall. The launch was officiated by Fr Brian Conlon. The Draw has Five Great Prizes to be won, total value estimated at €2,000.00. First Prize is a Large Tractor Trailer Load of Quality Firewood, Firewood donated by Joe Tansey of Greenbelt. Second Prize is 500 Litres of Home Heating Oil, sponsored by Stewarts Oil, Boyle. Third Prize is 1000kg of Coal, sponsored by Arigna Fuels, Arigna. Fourth Prize is a Boiler Service, sponsored by Shane Malone, Ballyfermoyle. Fifth Prize, Voucher for O' Dowd's Fireplaces, Carrick-on-Shannon. The Tractor Trailer Load of Quality Firewood was prepared voluntarily by our members with equipment assistance from East Bros, Boyle. The Club would like to thank all sponsors and those who attended the launch of the Draw. The Draw takes place on Sunday, the 28th of October 2012 in The Moorings Bar, Knockvicar. Draw entry is One Line for €2 or Three Lines for €5 and can be purchased from outlets through out the Club Area or any Club member.
